HSRC Participates in the American Public Health Association’s Annual Conference.

November 2006

Vaughn Keller, Don Parris, Yadong Yang, John Hanna, and Jenny Spadola from the Health Services Research Center (HSRC) attended the 134th Annual American Public Health Association (APHA) conference in Boston, MA in November. The conference took place at the newly constructed Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and was attended by over 13,000 public health professionals from around the world with over 3,000 scientific presentations.

HSRC staff attended sessions related to the research interests of the Center including obesity, nutrition, data management, health promotion, and health services research.  One of the highlights of the conference is the Public Health Expo where the HSRC had one of the many hundreds of booths located on the convention center floor.  At the booth, HSRC staff met with many other public health professionals to discuss future research collaborations, recruited for positions at the HSRC and caught up with colleagues and former professors.

Founded in 1872, the APHA is the oldest, largest and most diverse organization of public health professionals in the world. The association aims to protect all Americans and their communities from preventable, serious health threats and strives to assure community-based health promotion and disease prevention activities and preventive health services are universally accessible in the United States. APHA represents a broad array of health providers, educators, environmentalists, policy-makers and health officials at all levels working both within and outside governmental organizations and educational institutions.
